Last week we woke up to a beautiful Sunday morning and the temperature was forecast to reach 90° that day. So my wife and I decided to go to Half Moon Bay Beach (in the San Francisco Bay Area).
As we were driving to the beach, we decided to stop at the new Dunkin' Donuts (formerly Popeye’s fried chicken) that just opened up in Half Moon Bay, located at Hwy 92 and Hwy 1).
We parked the car and got in line to buy some coffee and donuts. While we we're standing there, I realized that I had left my wallet and all my money sitting on my desk at home. It turns out that my wife Alana also didn't bring her purse or any money.
Luckily, we both had our iPhones so I was quite confident that we could use Apple Pay to get us through the day. However, when I checked with the Dunkin’ Donuts cashier, I found out that they hadn’t yet invested in the new wireless payment technology, so Apple Pay wasn’t an option. Unfortunately, neither were the donuts!
We noticed a Starbucks across the street and knew that they accepted Apple Pay. So we walked out of Dunkin' Donuts (they lost two first-time customers) and into the Starbucks where we ordered our coffee, breakfast and some water bottles for later at the beach.
Then we went on the beach, walked along the water and hung out for a few hours in beautiful sunny weather. What a great day!
On the way back home, Alana was in the mood for a hamburger fix with Gilroy garlic fries, so we headed over to McDonald's for lunch. We paid for everything using Apple Pay.
When we got back into the car, we realized that we needed a few drug store items so we stopped at Walgreens (Target and CVS do not take Apple Pay) and again used Apple Pay.
We also needed some munchies for watching the 49ers football game that afternoon, so we stopped at Trader Joe's grocery store and once again paid with Apple Pay.
So… despite my wife and I leaving our wallet, purse and money at home, we were able to spend a beautiful day out at the beach. We didn’t have any problems buying coffee, food, drug store items and groceries using the Apple Pay application on my iPhone. It was fast and easy.
So “Thank You Apple Pay” for saving the day!
